What's changed for you

What the Finance Act 2026 changed (effective 1 July 2026)
    • Quarterly VAT returns. Returns now cover three tax periods and are due within 15 days of the cycle ending. Each month you deposit one-third of the previous quarter's tax as an advance. Monthly filing is still allowed voluntarily, and NBR is empowered to make electronic filing mandatory.
    • Mushak 9.1.1 is a new return form for registered traders.
    • Mushak 6.3 from your ERP. Tax invoices can be issued and preserved electronically from the company's ERP, and records kept in ERP/VAT software are admissible evidence.
    • Tampering penalty. Altering data in approved VAT software now carries a penalty of 1–2× the tax evaded. Audit trails matter.
    • Enlistment for everyone up to ৳50 lakh. The ৳30 lakh "no obligation" band is deleted. Above ৳50 lakh, VAT registration is mandatory.
    • Turnover tax moves from 4% to a fixed amount set by NBR (capped at ৳2 lakh), with a four-month period and yearly return.
    • Input credit: labour is off the negative list, and transport services now get 100% credit (was 80%).
    • BIN everywhere: needed for bank accounts, loans, trade licence renewal, MFS merchant accounts, utilities and vehicle registration.
